The Russian distribution network is still characterized by traditions from the past when there were a lack of almost everything. Within many sectors, retailers and suppliers are still very fragmented. There is almost no chains, neither vertically nor horizontally. Only in St. Petersburg 5000 food stores operate, all with different assortment and owners.
