The life in expatriation in Poland does not raise major difficulties,
in spite of an unfavorable climate. There are no problems of
safety, except the thievery of wallets and identity papers,
the thievery of cars and burglings.
Public transport (bus and trams) functions suitably in large
cities. The tickets or the cards are bought in the kiosks (Ruch)
and the hotels. Only the town of Warsaw has a subway, which
connects the southern suburbs to the Palace of the culture.
Taxi lifts are cheap, except in certain places such as the
airports. Some drivers apply arbitrary tariffs to foreigners.
This problem is relatively rare, but it is also found in trade,
restaurants, police, customs...
The cost of the residences in Warsaw is close to that of the
large European capitals. Expatriates often live in residential
districts and in particular in Zoliborz (north of Warsaw), Wilanow
(south of Warsaw) and in Saska Kepa (east of Warsaw). In such
places, the monthly rent is approximately 450 euros for an unfurnished
studio, 1000 euros for two or three-room apartment and 2000
euros for a villa.
The price of the m² in a new apartment varies from 250
EUR in the voïvodie of Slaskie, whose Katowice is the capital,
to 750 to 1200 EUR in Warsaw. The purchase of an apartment by
a foreigner does not require any specific authorization and
the real estate purchase for foreigners was significantly simplified.
