The Poles divide with the other Slavic their depths in the
feelings. A Polish electronic magazine described the Polish
heart, expressed so well by the music of Chopin, with the image
of the immense territory where the large plain of Central Europe
comes to die. They are of melancholic nature, soft, sentimental,
romantic. But they are also impulsive and become aware of the
consequences of their acts only afterwards, like describes the
proverb: "make damage, the Pole grow wise".
French and Poles are distinguished clearly in the attitude
against the misfortune. In France, the people complaining on
their own misfortunes or frustrations are looked of a suspect
eye. The French are large grousers, but their complaints must
as often as possible relate to general situations (the weather,
the policy, certain categories of populations), and not the
identified people and even less themself. On the contrary, "answer
mechanically" to the question preferred by the French "ça
va? "(how do you do?) is disconcerting for a Pole. All
Polish education is based on the concept of having suffering,
which makes the Poles pessimistic and fatalistic. Under these
conditions, expressing openly its happiness and its blooming
is not well seen.
The principal national heroes summarize great qualities which
the Poles venerate. It is about valiancy of Kosciuszko, Pilsudski
or Walesa, the knowledge of Kopernik, Sklodowska-Curie, the
gift of oneself of the father Popieluszko and the poetic sensitivity
of Mickiewicz, Herbert and Milosz.
