Program Management Seminar
25-28 March 2006

Background and objectives:
Like other businesses, the business of management education faces the
challenge of a competitive marketplace. To meet the needs of their
increasingly sophisticated customers, many business schools have turned
their attention to improving the marketing of their programs. The world's
best programs, however, have developed a sustainable competitive advantage
through superior program execution. They are noted for their flawless
execution, high levels of customer satisfaction and on-going program
improvements.
The CEEMAN Program Management Seminar at IEDC gives current and soon-to-be
Program Managers (Program Directors, Coordinators, and Administrators) an
opportunity to learn about best practices from universities around the
world. They will return to work with fresh perspectives and new ideas on
improving the quality of their educational offerings.
Program themes:
The Program Management Seminar focuses on three themes:
·Designing and executing outstanding educational programs (achieving
excellent reviews, and delivering high levels of customer service);
·Understanding the complex role of the Program Manager (meeting the
expectations of customers while gaining the cooperation of faculty and
university leaders,
integrating program development and marketing); and
·Strengthening the leadership skills of the Program Manager (handling
staff, working with faculty and coping with the pressures).
Program content
Topics to be covered in the Program Manager Seminar include:
· The role of the program manager in program delivery;
· Building a positive learning environment;
· Defining good customer service;
· Delivering high levels of customer satisfaction;
· Understanding the customer;
· Marketing surveys to understand your market;
· Program budgeting tools;
· How do decide on marketing investments to increase enrolments;
· Software for call management and admissions;
· Developing alumni programs;
· Post-program activities;
· Preparing for a program;
· Managing the performance of program staff;
· Maintaining high levels of staff motivation in customer service roles;
· Hiring program management staff;
· How to improve program rankings;
· Dealing with difficult participants;
· Managing faculty;
· Handling ethical dilemmas in the program manager role.
Program structure
The Program Management Seminar is an intensive and highly interactive 3-day
program designed to make Program Managers more effective in handling their
increasingly demanding and complex responsibilities. Class sessions include
briefings by experts on best practices, group discussions, case analyses of
problems faced by Program Managers, simulations and demonstrations of
technologies, software and budgeting tools.
The program begins on Saturday, March 25 at 17:00 and concludes on Tuesday,
March 28 at 13:00.
Program faculty
The program faculty includes a high-profile team of experienced
practitioners of business education: Don Nightingale (Queen's School of
Business, Canada), Mike Page (Rotterdam School of Management, the
Netherlands), and Danica Purg (IEDC-Bled School of Management, Slovenia),
well known for their excellence in program management.

Tuition fees:
· ?700 for CEEMAN regular members;
· ?770 for exchange and individual members;
· ?900 for non-members.
The fees include attendance of the sessions, seminar materials, coffee
breaks and lunches. The fees do not cover accommodation, travel, or
transfers from/to the airport.
